Course Outline: Consumer and Community Involvement (CCI) is a growing international movement and is central to the development of high quality, patient centred clinical trials. The aim of this session is to help consumers understand what it means to partner with researchers to improve their trials. The sessions also provide more information about clinical trials and why they are so important to improve public health.

Learning Objectives: Attendees will be able to:
• Understand what clinical trials are and why they are so important
• Be familiar with key historical events that have shaped the regulation of clinical trials
• Be aware of what to expect when you are a ‘Research Partner’
• Understand why researchers want to involve consumers (how your input contributes to the planning and conduct of high-quality, patient-centred trials)
• Identify possible barriers to high quality consumer involvement
• Be aware of the roles and responsibilities of key players in clinical research
• Understand how you may benefit from being involved in clinical research
Certification: Attendees will receive a certificate of attendance following course completion.
